Through the years with Windsor Mencap

Douglas Hill – President:

Douglas has supported our Society since the 1970’s  and together with a group of local businessmen organised fundraising events for the society.  Ian Harris was also part of this group, eventually becoming Mayor of Windsor and Chairman of Windsor Mencap.

The Candlelight Dinner was set up by Douglas and Ian Harris  in the Guild Hall in Windsor, a black tie event to raise money to build a new clubhouse.  The clubhouse was completed in 1978 for £25,000, and is still standing today!

Douglas has continued to organise the very successful annual Candlelight dinner to the present day (38 years)  with the continued support of  local organisations  including the Windsor Lions (Harry Purchase has continued as a long serving MC for the evening),  Rotary and Round Table plus some local support from Michael Shanley a well known businessman locally and most recently  Stuart Adnitt  who works alongside Douglas to ensure continuation of the event.

Windsor Mencap would not have continued so successfully over the years supporting those with special needs without the help of this wonderful group of people - we thank you all.
